Episode 5 Mapping Out My Day

In this episode, we have a meditation adventure exploring a map of our day. So many things happen in a day, mapping it out is a great way to reflect and share about your adventures with others. We also have an activity with your own printable map and Callie the Detective Kitty is here with a mystery we need some help solving.

Building Connections

Parent: How was your day?

Child: Fine

Parent: What did you do at school today?

Child: Nothing

Parent: Did you do anything fun?

Child: No

Parent: Did you learning anything at school?

Child: I don’t know

Any of this sound familiar?

As parents, we care about our kids and want to know what is going on in their lives. We want to celebrate their successes and offer support when they struggle.

But, it’s difficult for kids to remember specific events that happen over the course of a long day. It can also be hard for kids to find the words to express themselves.

I created this podcast episode and printable map to make it easier for kids and parents to connect, by sharing about the variety of things that happen over the course of the day.

Simply by having a visual cue, it is easier for kids to remember and talk about specific events.

Dinner time with my wife, 4, and 6 year-old often consisted of something like the dialogue above.

Now, we will sit down for dinner and without any sort of prompt from me, my four year old takes the initiative to find our map and uses the visual prompts to guide everyone in sharing about the joys and challenges of the day.

Being a kid is tough these days. But by staying connected, you can make them feel loved and supported.

Here is How to Get Started:

Step 1: Click on the image of the map below

Step 2: Download and print out a map

Step 3: Listen to the Feelings Detective Podcast Episode 5 (audio player above or on Apple Podcasts) with your child to learn about the symbols and encourage your kiddo to practice sharing about their day

Step 4: Use the map repeatedly at dinner or before bed and enjoy the opportunity to stay connected
